In 2011, the people of St Paul Lutheran Church has a challenge – read through the entire Bible in a year. But now 2011 is past, and 2012 is upon us. So what next?
Hopefully everyone who attempted to read a bit of the Bible each day found themselves transformed. Even more importantly, I hope that everyone’s knowledge and understanding of God’s plan grew as we engaged God’s Word. God promises to speak to us through His Word – and the more time we spend with Him, the more we find our faith holding even more firmly onto His promises.
But just because 2011 is behind us doesn’t mean we stop a great habit we started. Let’s continue to be in God’s Word! There’s a wonderful resource by George Guthrie to help us engage God’s Word of Truth – Read the Bible for Life: Your Guide to Understanding and Living God’s Word.
Since we went through the Bible cover to cover, in order, during 2011, let’s continue to be in God’s Word, but read through a little different way. Guthrie provides a reading schedule called the “4+1Plan.” Each day, we read through four different places in Scripture, plus the psalms. Over the course of the year, we’ll have read through the Psalms twice. There are size readings per week, which allows one day to catch up, or one day of “rest” if it’s not needed.
What do you say, are you ready for the challenge again? Immerse yourself in God’s Word – and watch as God works in you!
